PHIXER for Conference / Hybrid AV / stereo fold for remote attendees
Ballroom FOH cans and the tech booth can feel wide while the same podium, panel lavs, and stereo program beds thin for remote attendees on Zoom, Teams, Meet, webinar, or a mono-ish lecture-capture path. Remote guests often preview on laptop speakers or a single earbud. Check mono and remote fold before doors and before UC go-live. Free phase-repair helps after polarity and timing. It is not a UC platform, not a time-aligner, and not a substitute for a true mono listen on a laptop speaker.

PHIXER is free stereo phase-repair (VST3/CLAP/AU · Win/Mac/Linux) from Riverflux Audio. Frequency-aware phase rotation for leftover L/R fights on stereo material. It is not a UC / webinar platform, not a time-aligner, not a stereo widener, and not a substitute for polarity, delay matching, or a real mono / laptop-speaker check. Use it after hygiene, when residual spectral cancellation remains on a stereo program / hybrid path you must keep stereo through remote fold and lecture-capture preview.
Three conference / hybrid AV fold modes
- Remote-attendee / UC fold after encode. Remote guests often preview on laptop speakers or one earbud. Podium plus panel lavs plus stereo beds that sound huge in the booth can soft-drop consonants and low-end warmth when the UC / webinar path sums. Habit: true L+R sum on the remote / stereo program bus before you go live. Cousin guide: PHIXER for Zoom / Meet Stereo Music Beds that collapse on laptop speakers.
- Podium / panel stereo on mono PA / foldback. Podium handheld vs lav, panel table mics, Q&A handheld vs ceiling, stereo playback, and walk-in beds fight when house, booth, or remote matrices fold. Mute wide FX briefly and re-check fold with speech up, not only soloed in cans. Cousin: PHIXER for Wedding Livestream / dual-mic ceremony stereo that collapses on phone.
- Booth vs DSP vs UC vs lecture-capture dual-system. Separate matrices can hide mono soft-drop until someone joins remote mid-session. Habit: mono compatibility checklist and Live FOH: foldback stream phase mono matrix.
Fast conference / hybrid mono audition (about 60 seconds)
- Sum L+R on the remote / stereo program bus. Listen to podium body, panel speech, and walk-in / break beds.
- A/B stereo vs mono. Note what disappears on fold: consonants, low-end warmth, wide pads under beds or stingers.
- Preview the bounce on a laptop speaker or earbud with speech and beds up. Mute wide FX / Haas / side-heavy verbs. Note which path thins the fold.
- Re-check fold after any DSP / limiter / UC encoder / lecture-capture pass, not only before cleanup. Habit: mono compatibility checklist.
Honest order of fixes (before spectral phase rotation)
1. True mono / L+R listen plus laptop-speaker preview
Hard L+R sum on the remote / stereo program bus. Then preview on a laptop speaker or earbud with speech and beds. Habit: mono compatibility checklist, Zoom / Meet beds, and the 60-second audition above.
2. Polarity if a path flips
Podium handheld vs lav, panel table mics, Q&A handheld vs ceiling, dual playback beds, stacked stingers. Flip polarity when body returns. Guide: polarity vs phase.
3. Timing / delay-align before spectral tools
Nudge podium vs lav, panel spots, ceiling vs handheld, and wide beds a few ms. Spectral rotation is not a substitute for timing.
4. Prefer correlated lows and center for remote fold
Keep podium body, panel speech, and critical walk-in / break bed body correlated. Put width in sides that survive fold. Related: Wedding livestream and Zoom / Meet beds.
5. Only then audition residual L/R spectral fights
If a stereo program / hybrid path must stay stereo and fold still hollows a band after the steps above, gentle frequency-aware phase rotation can help. Prove it with mono A/B. Watch the YouTube tutorial and the mono demo.
Conference / hybrid AV path types
| Setup | Common mono failure | First fix |
|---|---|---|
| Remote / UC stereo bus | Podium and panel speech soft-drop on laptop speakers | Hard mono bounce; laptop / earbud check |
| Podium handheld vs lav | Warmth gone when both paths play | Polarity then timing; true L+R with speech up |
| Panel table mics vs Q&A handheld | Swish or cancel on foldback / remote | Zoom beds cousin; less width in lows |
| Stereo walk-in / break / stinger FX | Body gone when UC folds | Mute wide FX; correlated center |
| Booth vs DSP vs UC vs lecture-capture dual-system | Fine in cans, thin on remote mid-session | Wedding livestream; re-check after encoder |
| Limiter / UC encode after mix | Fine in headphones, thin after encode | Re-check fold after limiter / encode / go-live, not only before |
Wedding livestream and Zoom beds cousins (short version)
- Wedding livestream / dual-mic ceremony stereo and Zoom / Meet stereo music beds share the same L+R habit as conference / hybrid AV stereo fold for remote attendees before doors and before UC go-live.
- Polarity and timing still come first. Spectral tools after residual L/R fights only.

When not to reach for PHIXER
- Polarity flip, a few ms of delay, feedback, room-EQ, or encoder artifacts that a mono listen already explains.
- Trying to "fix" mono foldback with a widener or Haas on podium / panel lows.
